oh_darling[Poll #1435554]I'll try to keep things short, but for those of you who've read my (more recent) writing, you know it'll probably get out of hand.
I've probably forgotten fandoms of mine. Alas. {KHR is a new one. I read up to C085, so try to avoid anything from after that, as I won't understand you. At all.} I ask requesters to avoid anything too dark for now, but better just go ahead and ask; the worst I can do is let you pick something else.

FILLED - Downtime (1/1)

To be fair, Gokudera hadn’t meant for any of this to happen. He certainly isn’t sitting here — quite literally stuck smack-dab in the middle of some overrated downtown hotspot — by choice. It’s been a while since he arrived (roughly fourteen minutes and thirty-nine seconds ago), not that he’s been painstakingly counting down the milliseconds spent withering away in the crowd, or anything of the sort.
It’s unbearably hot, and every now and then he finds himself patting down his pockets, as if checking to make sure that the air hasn’t sparked and set off one of the many fuses bunched together there. The cooling vent he’s casually plopped down next to feels as though it’s been belching out flames. There isn’t a single patch of shade outside the shabby restaurant either, only hot and extra crispy portions of pavement, but it doesn’t seem to bother Yamamoto as he jogs closer, grinning broadly and waving through the shop window.
“What a moron.” Gokudera mutters under his breath, glaring back, itching to blow the whole damn place to smithereens. The door chimes and Yamamoto steps in, greeting a few classmates he knows before meandering over to where Gokudera waits. “Took you long enough,” the boy snaps, scowling around the cigarette in the corner of his mouth.
“Sorry!” Yamamoto shoots back, undeterred as he lifts the strap of his schoolbag over his head and sets it and the duffel bag containing his baseball equipment under the table. “Funny story, actually… I couldn’t find my sneakers—”
“Save it.”
“And then I just looked down and — guess what — I was already wearing them. Huh.”
Deciding that he doesn’t want to hear any more on the subject (or any others in the baseball idiot’s repertoire for that matter), Gokudera flags down one of the waitresses. She slinks over and cracks her gum once or twice, raising a brow and tossing a pointed glance at the ‘no smoking’ sign before yanking a pad and pencil out of her apron. “Welcome,” she says flatly. “What’ll it be?”
Rolling his eyes as he stubs out the cigarette, Gokudera replies tersely, “One iced coffee. Black.”
“I’ll have a cup of green tea. Thanks.” Yamamoto tells her brightly, and she writes both orders down as she sidles away. Then he turns his eyes towards the frowning boy across from him, who is slouched over and leaning heavily to one side, chin in palm. “So, what was so urgent, Gokudera-kun? You sounded a little upset when you called earlier.”
Damn right, Gokudera shouts in his head.
…And out loud too, apparently. Yamamoto just stares at him patiently, although his lips twitch into a wider smile. “What are you smiling about?” Gokudera growls, exasperated, “It’s all your fault! If you hadn’t mentioned the fact that the Tenth is still having trouble swimming — In earshot of Reborn-san, of all people! — then we’d all be out having fun, not wasting time here hoping he survives whatever Reborn-san is undoubtedly making him do!”
The grin doesn’t budge a centimeter as Yamamoto nonchalantly answers, “But Tsuna-kun should learn how to swim properly! He won’t always be able to rely on convenient bursts of luck.” After a momentary pause, Yamamoto adds: “…He’s really lucky, you know? Do you think if I touch his stomach, it’ll rub off on me*?”
Gokudera groans, his aggravation mounting even as the waitress plunks down her tray and sullenly tells them to help themselves to their orders. He snatches his iced coffee and takes a deep swig of it, still boring a hole into Yamamoto’s forehead as the other boy gingerly lifts his teacup and blows over the rim to clear the hovering steam away. Yamamoto takes a sip and sets down the cup slowly, exhaling loudly in satisfaction.
“How can you be drinking that? It’s so hot today.” Gokudera snaps.
“Tea is always awesome,” Yamamoto exclaims. “Want some?”
Suddenly thinking of the brand new dynamite stored the soles of his shoes, Gokudera’s fingers tremble with the effort of restraining himself.
*There’s a superstition that rubbing Buddha’s belly will bring you good fortune and prosperity.
Note: Gyuh, I still don’t feel like I got their personalities quite right… but hopefully you laughed a little anyway?
