I'm finally following up on that last post! (Since I spent most of today recovering from it, haha. :D)
To begin with, I slept really badly Friday night, since I was starting to come down with the casual little cold bug that's been going around. I was supposed to get up rather early for the weekend, around 6:15am, but I wound up sleeping in until 7:00am. Whoops. So I rushed to make the bus -- but I did make it! (I think I was the first one there, actually.) <3
TIMESKIP. [Because there's nothing terribly interesting to say about warming up.] At this tournament, it's all about winning as many matches as possible. There are five schools attending in total, so we all had to play four matches that day. Ouch, I know.
For the first match, we played a decent school. It went very well (we won by a large margin), in part because my partner and I moved down to second doubles so that our two best singles players could team up and get the first slot. The two girls were good, but I felt that my partner and I played a more aggressive game and used a variety of change-ups to keep the game flowing our way. :)
The second match was disastrous. Ugh, I just completely lost my cool-as-a-cucumber attitude because of the other team's poor sportsmanship. I wouldn't have been as angry if I hadn't known both of the girls, but... Gyah, it was just not pretty. We lost.
We won the third match, but I still kind of crabby. I wasn't satisfied with my level of playing, although some of the spectators seemed to think I did well enough. Blargh. I felt that we could have played a much tighter game by taking advantage of the other team's blatant weaknesses....That sounds kind of mean, doesn't it?
We also won our fourth match. For this one, the lineup changed around completely. Everyone split up -- the coaches wanted to win as many matches as possible, since we had a shot at winning the invitational. Their strategy was good; they mixed someone experienced or consistent with someone explosive. It worked quite well. (My partner and I, erm, won by a mile.)
At the end of the meet, we were tied with the school we played our second match against. Then the host surprised us by deciding to spin a racket to determine who would take 'home' the plaque. We chose, and won! (We all agreed that the host coach was rigging it, though. He only twirled the racquet once after looking at it, haha! I think that he did so because the other school was being very rude to everyone in general, whereas we were polite and fair.)
Well, we were happy about that! Partly because they had been rude to us too, and partly because they are our 'sister' school of sorts, and we have some intense competition going on between us.
Unfortunately, I got really sunburnt since I didn't put sunscreen on my arms or legs. (The first match was really cloudy and then I guess I just forgot to put some on later...) This was bad, since we were there from 7:30am to 6:30pm. Oh man, my biceps were lobster red (in the particular cut of our uniform, haha). My legs were okay, and my face wasn't terrible since I did apply sunscreen there.
I applied a lot of this medicinal concoction we have in our family, and my face is already tanned. My arms are now just a very slight pink. In a day or so they'll be tan. (Ugh, last night I couldn't sleep though, because of how much pain I was in then. It was horrible. DX) I caught up on my sleep today, though, dozing on and off through various action movies before doing my homework.
Love,
